Camouflage is a pattern created over a century ago by the military in order to evade the eye of the enemy.

To create it, government agencies consulted with artists and designers.

What went through its makers minds as they developed a design in which people’s lives would be at stake?

Does the pattern reflect their thoughts, their pride?

This time we have asked the artist Okamoto to provide “patterns” rather than artworks.

The patterns cover not only the surface but the entire object, comprising of details that accumulate little by little and spread throughout. As he puts it, “Only when it is complete as a bag is it complete as a painting. It is a camouflage design that embodies a painting within its design.”
